Title: How to install the URL FilterBox ?

Step 0 – Get the ISO Disk and burn the CD ROM

  1. First of all, go to visit the Download page and download the ISO disk (32bits or 64bits)
  2. Visit the dedicated page for the minimum requirements.
  3. Burn a CD by using the ISO file you have just downloaded

Step 1 – Installation (average time required 5 to 10 mins)

  1.  Boot the burned CD on the computer that will be used as your URL FilterBox
  2. At the boot menu, just [Enter] on the first option of the Linux menu
  3. The Installation process will display lots of messages. Note that some may look like error messages but you don't need to consider any of them, just ignore then. This process may take between 6 to 10 mins.
  4. The unique question during the installation will be at the end for the reboot
  5. [Enter] for ejecting the CD and [Enter] to reboot the computer

Step 2 – Configuration of your Software Appliance

  1. At the restart, your fresh UFB (URL FilterBox) will apply the latest Core Update (patches and fix) then will restart again, that's normal.
  2. Once the main menu appears on the screen, feel fre to modify the IP Address of the computer to fit your architecture: option [M]. You can modify the IP Address, Network Mask, Gateway and DNS Server.

Note 1: The UFB will add 2 DNS Servers automaticaly in the configuration.
Note 2 : Now the your URL FilterBox is up and running, you can leave it as it is. Except those above, all settings are done through a web console.


Step 3 – Creating your account and Applying you Web filtering Configuration

Finally, go to the Management Console :

  1. Register a new Account or Log in as existing user
  2. Check your mailbox if you are a new user to confirm the registration
  3. Go back to the Management Console and log in with your account
  4. Link your new URL FilterBox to your Account (you must associate your URL FilterBox to your account)
  5. Now you are ready to setup your URL FilterBox: You can choose wich Web Categories you want to filter out/block...
  6. Enjoy !!!

Important: The UFB will refresh itself every 5 minutes for the new options you have selected. So do not panic if your choices are not applied immediatly, just wait 5 minutes max...

Step 4 – Testing the Filtering

  1. If you are in trial mode (or have a commercial license) as an example you could try to block www.playboy.com (Porn category) or www.nudism.tv (Nudity category)
  2. Go to your browser, modify the "Proxy" setup by indicating the IP Address of your URL Filter Box
  3. Go to the URL FilterBox console, make sure that the category “Porn” or “Nudity” is selected, then apply the changes if needed. Wait 5 mins and visit to www.playboy.com to verify this web site is now correctly blocked.
  4. You can also view the realtime web traffic on the screen of the URL FilterBox by selecting the [T] option in the main menu. You should see in Red characters all blocked web sites (depending on your block settings).
